Everyone has different needs but as a rule of thumb, if you are trying to save money, you should NEVER go to an authorized Rolex dealer to purchase your watch. As policy, you will be forced to pay full retail for their watch. Their are plenty of non authorized Rolex dealers who offer the same exact merchandise at a discounted price. The key is finding one that is trustworthy with a solid reputation and willing to create a positive buying experience.
The only Real difference between authorized and non authorized Rolex Dealer's is that the consumer's 2 year Rolex warranty will most likely not be honored through the manufacturer if purchased from a non AD but who cares! Most "resellers" / Non Authorized Rolex Dealers offer their own supplemental two year warranty which follows the same guidlines as the manufacturers warranty, not to mention that 9 times out of ten, you won't need to use the warranty because most Rolex watches do not need to be serviced until after the 2 year warranty is up!
That being said, If you are in the market for a Rolex Daytona, a Rolex President, or a Rolex Submariner, or any Rolex watch for that matter, there are always good deals to buy if you know where to look.
When buying from a "Reseller" who discounts merchandise, be sure to buy your watch from a dealer who has an actual retail store. Many websites are dealers who operate out of their garage, or a small office and do not have watchmakers on site. The most reputable and trustworthy dealers have storefronts that allow customers to come and inspect the merchandise before buying.
